A vegan hair and skin care brand built by barbers, from scratch, in a Milton Keynes kitchen β€” still family-run, still handmade in Britain, and still doing it the same way it always has been.

A Gap in the Market. A Kitchen. A Family.

ROK Barbers opened its first shop in 2000. Two decades and three shops later, the family behind it had tried just about every product going β€” and kept hitting the same wall: overpriced, underwhelming, or not the kind of thing you'd want to put on your skin every day.

So in 2019 they started making their own. The idea was simple: build a proper vegan hair care range at a time when there was very little on the market. From the very beginning it was a family effort β€” two family members took on product development, working out of a kitchen in Milton Keynes. The first products β€” a clay, a pomade, a paste and a salt spray β€” were built from scratch with vegan ingredients, nothing but research and a lot of determination.

Tested in the Chair. Refined Over Time.

Getting the formulas right took time. Vegan ingredients don't always behave like traditional ones β€” so there was a lot of testing, adjusting and starting over. Every product was trialled where it mattered most: in ROK's own barbershops, put in the hands of the barbers, and compared against the non-vegan products they'd used for years. If it didn't hold up, it didn't ship.

Sourcing the right ingredients mattered just as much β€” making sure everything was genuinely vegan and ethically sound, not just close enough.

By 2021 the formulas were proven in ROK's own chairs. Five years on, the range has grown well beyond those first few products β€” the recipes sharpened, the line took shape, and confidence in the products grew.

Out of the Kitchen. Into the Unit.

As demand grew, the operation moved out of the kitchen and into a dedicated unit in Milton Keynes. The team expanded β€” still family β€” and production scaled up properly for the first time. Labels were designed in-house. Branding was handled in-house. Orders started going out the door.

That same hands-on approach has never changed. Every batch is still made and packaged with the same care as those early test runs β€” just at a scale that means more people can get their hands on it.

Performance You Can Feel Good About.

We wanted formulas that actually work β€” that hold, define and nourish β€” made with ingredients we're happy to put our name to. Everything we make is:

  • 100% vegan β€” no animal products, ever
  • Cruelty-free β€” never tested on animals
  • Handmade in Britain β€” made, filled and packaged right here in the UK
  • Made in small batches β€” by a family team that cares how it turns out

Hair Care & Skin Care. All Under One Roof.

The range has been refined over the years β€” some products have come and gone, and new ones have been added as the brand grew beyond hair care into skin care. Today it covers both:

Genuinely Made Here. Always Has Been.

Plenty of brands are made overseas and simply labelled as UK products. ROK is genuinely made in Britain, in-house, using vegan ingredients β€” the same way it's always been done, just in a bigger space than a kitchen. Independent, family-run, and built on its own terms.
